National Service Scheme Unit

Launched in 1969, the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, the National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service program sponsored by the Government of India and conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The NSS is a voluntary association of young people in colleges, universities and secondary schools, working towards a campus-community link and aimed at developing students' personality through community service

The NSS programme is organised and run by students and in collaboration with the teaching community they participate in community service, developing a sense of involvement in nation building.

The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has sanctioned one unit of the NSS to the Providence College of Engineering.

The unit will function under the technical cell with a strength of 100 volunteers, with Robin James, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering serving as the programme officer.

The NSS unit of the college will work towards shaping students into humane and responsible citizens.
